This past weekend, the Masters Rowers of Peachtree City Rowing Club traveled to Oak Ridge, Tennessee for racing on the beautiful Melton ill Lake. The USRowing Masters National Regatta has participants from all over coming to race high profile 1,000m events. Hundreds of boats across many events give all their effort for a chance at a podium finish. Our rowers of PTCRC were not leaving without podium finishes and some hardware of their own.
Beth Parker racing in the Women's 1x E event.
The racing for PTCRC began Friday morning, with Beth Parker racing in the 1x E heat. Parker finished in 5:12.04, putting her in 3rd place for the 1st heat. The top 3 from Heat 1 move onto the finals. Later that afternoon, Parker finished the Finals race 4:38.12 putting her in 6th place overall. You can find more details on the results on USRowing’s website by clicking here.
Co-founder of PTCRC, Megan Gradek, also had a busy and exciting weekend of racing. Participating in the Women’s 1x B, Women’s 1x C, Women’s 4x B, and Women’s 8+ A events. Gradek’s racing began on Saturday morning racing in Heat 2 for the Open 1x C event. She placed 1st, beating runner up by 4.85 seconds. Later that afternoon, she went onto race in the Finals for the Open 1x C event where she placed missed 1st place by 2.55 seconds. After the Open 1x C event, Gradek raced in Women’s Open 4x B Finals where she and her crew placed 1st overall with a 3:32.90 finish.
On the final day of racing, Sunday, Gradek raced the WomenFinal. This was a stacked event which made for fast racing. Gradek’s crew lost to silver by a mere 0.4 seconds. It was truly a barnburner of a race that left Gradek exhausted. Hardly 40 minutes later, Gradek raced in the Women’s 1x B Final. Despite being exhausted from racing and the brutal 91 degree heat, Gradek was able to pull off an impressive 3rd place finish at 4:19.98.

Our Masters rowers trained hard for this race. Their performance certainly showed from all the blood, sweat, and tears they put in. Many strokes were taken at the beautiful Lake McIntosh to prepare for this event. You’ll be able to catch our Masters rowers racing again at the Tail of the Tiger head race located in Clemson, South Carolina.
