Peachtree City Rowing Club Makes Waves In Their Inaugural Season

(January 23, 2017)

The Peachtree City Rowing Club (PTCRC) is a not-for-profit, 501c3 organization established in August 2015 to encourage and further the instruction, improvement and competition in and enjoyment of the art of rowing.  Located within Lake McIntosh Park in Peachtree City, PTCRC is the only rowing program on the south side of Atlanta and one of three rowing clubs in the state of Georgia offering membership and programs for youth and adults.

PTCRC initially partnered with the Row America organization and was known as Row America Peachtree.  The organization held an official grand opening last summer in an effort to introduce the community to the world of rowing and the club’s facilities at Lake McIntosh.  A series of “learn to row” programs were held later in the summer which offered youth and adults the opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals of rowing and water safety.

Following a successful summer program, over 70 middle and high school youth participated in the inaugural fall rowing programs.  After just a few weeks of intensive practices, the organization fielded a highly competitive high school racing team who travelled to the Chattanooga Head Race and the Head of the Hooch regattas in Chattanooga, Tennessee and the Head of the South regatta in Augusta, Georgia, where they competed against established youth and collegiate rowing programs from the midwest and throughout the east coast.  While the crews had respectable finishes in each of their races, the highlight of the fall racing season took place at the Head of the South where several of our crews and individual rowers medaled (placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd) in their events.

In addition to an active youth program, PTCRC has a growing adult and masters program with some of the fastest scullers in the country.  Several of these rowers represented the club while competing at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.

Registration for our spring learn to row program is now open for youth and adults.  These programs are geared towards those with little or no experience and are designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of rowing.  Programs begin February 27 and are offered in the morning or evening hours.  The club is also offering a spring break camp (April 3-7) for ages 12 and up.  Visit www.ptcrowing.org for more information or to register for these programs.  PTCRC membership and programs are available to all area residents.

The 2017 spring racing season will include participation in the following regattas:

March 18: Lake McIntosh, GA (Home Course)

March 26: John Hunter Regatta, Lake Lanier, GA

April 1: Clemson Sprints Regatta, Lake Hartwell, SC

April 15: Lake McIntosh, GA (Home Course)

April 29-30: Dogwood Jr. Championship, Melton Hill Lake, TN

PTCRC invites you to come and try a new sport - no experience necessary!  Rowing is a fun, relaxing and social sport where you can meet new people while improving your fitness and enjoy the natural surroundings of pristine Lake McIntosh.

We also invite you to come out to Lake McIntosh any day during practice or on March 18 and April 15 to cheer on your hometown CREW - the Peachtree City Rowing Club.
